Welcome to the Salmon Arm Flying Club
The SAFC was formed in 1967 and played a major role in the creation of the current airport. The 4500 foot runway allows twin engine Medivac aircraft to service our community. In conjunction with the North Okanagan Ultralight Association, the SAFC has hosted an annual flight safety review presented by Transport Canada officials. In 2000 SAFC joined the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association to create COPA Flight #80.
On Saturday, August 15 the Salmon Arm Flying Club, in conjunction with the North Okanagan Ultralight Association, will be holding an Aviation Appreciation Event at the Salmon Arm Airport from 0900 to 1400 hr. We are planning a fun filled day with (hopefully) some live entertainment, door prizes, static displays and homebuilt projects for viewing. We will be starting with pancakes and sausages, and then will be preparing BBQ hamburgers and corn, along with seasonal salads and fruit. We could use your support commencing at either 0700 hr. or 0930 hr. depending on what shift(s) you could help out with. The kitchen will be open for 5 hours so we will need lots of coverage! Duties could involve set up, take down and being a part of the grill team. If you can devote some volunteer hours, please contact Garth at either: rvvector@telus.net or (250) 833-7970.
SAFC participates in high school career orientation for students interested in aviation, and in the Young Eagles Flight Discovery for children under 17.
The club invites anyone with a passion for aviation to visit and/or join our club. A pilot’s license is not required. Monthly meetings usually feature a speaker on some aviation topic, from safety procedures to maintenance to personal adventures. We have a wide variety of members including commercial transport pilots, helicopter pilots, air traffic controllers, bush pilots, aircraft mechanics, private and ultralight pilots, students, and folks just plain interested in flying. We gather for coffee every Wednesday morning at 1000 hrs. If you are in the area, drop in, we would love to meet you.
